LonWorks Gateways: Putting LonWorks on the Fast Track |

J. Gordon Electronic Design has developed several gateway products, including both custom electronic hardware and software, to quickly adapt existing products to take advantage of LonWorks technology.
Serial gateways are developed to translate older proprietary protocols to the open LonWorks protocol. Bridges, gateways, and plug-on modules are the fast way to adapt existing products to the rapidly growing LonWorks market.
One of our gateway products is being used to control the cabin environment in new subway cars in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. Others are being used for more domestic concerns, including HVAC control, energy management, and building automation in the US.

J. Gordon Electronic Design has developed several gateway products, including both custom hardware and software, to quickly adapt existing products to LonWorks compatibility. In some cases, we are simply replacing older less efficient communications links with new technology for purposes of improved performance. In other cases, we are adapting existing products to join the new "open system" revolution. Adapting existing products provides a means to get to market faster in many cases.
New development often includes native LonWorks capability. But an advantage of the "gateway" concept is that it can be used to retrofit systems already in the field to convert them to an "open system" architecture. OEMs can thus take immediate advantage of the many other open system products already on the market while still taking advantage of their investment in prior developments of their products. |
