Industrial Process Control: Plastic Extrusion Control System |
J. Gordon Electronic Design developed custom electronics and software for a plastic extrusion control system which included a user interface that gained industry wide recognition for being the most user-friendly system available. The system also included unique digital PID algorithms that optimized the process.
Control functions include digital PID with special enhancements to eliminate startup overshoot. The system includes startup "recipe" capability, extensive diagnostics and report generation, and alarm monitoring.
The system can be expanded to include motor control, auxiliary functions, and plant-wide networking. The system includes field programmable control similar to industry standard Programmable Logic Controllers.
A custom operator console has gained recognition throughout this industry for being the most user-friendly system
This industrial process control system provides temperature control and various other control functions for extrusion equipment. Closed loop temperature control based on digital PID algorithms operates heating capacities as high as 50-100 kW per heat zone, with as many as 30 zones per system. Motor control provides variable speed operation of DC motors as high as 150 HP with digital accuracy. Various auxiliary functions include control, monitoring, and alarm processing.
J. Gordon Electronic Design developed special temperature control software which provides near zero overshoot on startup and tight tolerance after startup even under conditions of thermal rise being several degrees per minute and thermal lag of one to two minutes.
